E-2C Hawkeye Automated Task Aid Analysis MTI completed an analysis for Northrop Grumman (NGC) that identified high workload missions in the E-2C Hawkeye aircraft, and provided detailed task analyses for two of the highest workload missions. MTI identified and recommended the integration of a number automated task aids for incorporation into the E-2C weapon system that will allow the system operators to complete mission tasking more effectively. For more information on MTI's automated task aid ability please contact us. Multi Function Display (MFD) Evaluation Guide for FAA Certification MTI created a standardized approach for evaluating the human factors aspects relevant to MFD designs. In May, 2003 the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued this guide as an official U.S. Department of Transportation publication (document number DOT/FAA/OAM-TM-03-01). If you are interested in obtaining a copy, please contact us. If you are concerned about the design and evaluation of your MFD's, contact us. We can help. To learn more about this guide and view sample pages, please see below. The FAA MFD Human Factors Evaluation Guide The FAA MFD Human Factors Evaluation Guide was designed to assist aircraft certification personnel and avionics manufacturers in evaluating the human factors aspects of MFDs for FAA certification. It is an assistive tool, organized in the form of a checklist to add more structure in the evaluation process by pointing out some important attributes of design that research has shown can significantly lower the demands on the user. With the wide range of functional requirements put on different MFD's, there is a correspondingly wide range of questions and design issues. Therefore, human factors guideline considerations are provided as a reminder to certification personnel. In addition, “best practices” are included that are supported by research in the design of an MFD. The evaluation criteria are grouped into related areas and ordered in a manner that facilitates the evaluation procedure. Each evaluation topic is presented in two facing pages as illustrated below. The left page provides the evaluation procedures and considerations, while the right page presents additional information on the considerations and guidelines. MTI's New, Easy To Use Contractual Vehicle Government sponsors of technical work can now use a fast, no-hassle contractual vehicle to get services from MTI. In 2002 NASA Ames Research Center awarded a six-year delivery order contract to a consortium of small, California-based companies that includes MTI. Using this contract vehicle, MTI can provide a broad range of technical support services for NASA, DoD, and other government agencies through the MIPR process. Work is performed under non-competitive delivery orders that can be issued in a few weeks at a very low pass through cost. For additional information on how to contract with MTI under this easy to use contractual vehicle please contact us. Human Factor's Bibliography Display Issues for Synthetic Vision MTI designed and developed an on-line bibliography for NASA's Aviation Safety Program (AvSP), which was launched in May, 2003. The bibliography can be found at http://avsp-bibliography.larc.nasa.gov.
